Over the last few years, my erections have become less and less reliable. On Monday, I visited a urologist specializing in sexual dysfunction. Mrs. Lion accompanied me on the visit. Apparently, it is unusual for a partner to accompany a man looking for a solution to his erectile dysfunction. The nurse congratulated Mrs. Lion for coming with me.

The visit started with a tech asking the usual health questions and checking my blood pressure. When that was done, the urologist came in. She discussed using Trimix to induce erections. Then she examined my penis and balls. She pronounced them normal. Next, I bent over the exam table for a prostate check. That felt good. It’s also healthy. Last, she agreed to send a prescription for Trimix to a local compounding pharmacy. We discussed the plan for me to get to the correct dose, and she left.

A nurse came in next. She was friendly and polite. She reviewed a long list of side effects and how to deal with them. The most serious is priapism. This is an erection lasting more than four hours. Four hours? Wow! The urologist also covered this and said it was highly unlikely for men my age. The nurse discussed what to do if the boner lasted more than a couple of hours. I already knew the answers to those questions.

When she was done with the explanations, we got down to the demo. She told me to pull down my pants and underpants. I did and sat in a chair. Mrs. Lion and the nurse looked on with interest. The nurse handed me a 1ml insulin syringe (1/2 inch 29 ga. needle). She explained how to extract the solution from the vial. We used a saline solution for the demo. It took me a little time to get the right dose into the syringe. The numbers on the syringe are a bit small and not too easy to see.

After I loaded the syringe, she shifted our attention to my penis. Using a finger, she traced a line on either side of the shaft indicating the correct location for my injection. Then, she told me to find a good spot. I found a spot with no obvious veins and put the needle just touching it. She nodded in approval, and I pushed it in. There was almost no pain. I didn’t expect any since the shaft of the penis has few nerve endings. Once in, I pressed the plunger and injected the saline. As soon as I removed the needle, I put pressure on the injection spot and was told to hold it for at least three minutes. I did. That was it.

On the way home, we stopped at the pharmacy and picked up my prescription. After we got home and I had a chance to get naked, it was time to administer the first dose. I loaded the syringe and found a good spot on the other side of my penis from the one we did at the doctor’s office. I injected the Trimix and put pressure on the spot. After three minutes, I released my fingers and stood up to put the Trimix back into the refrigerator.

As I stood, my penis felt heavy. It was the feeling I get when I begin to get hard. The thing was that I wasn’t turned on. I looked down and saw myself starting to get an erection. Hoo boy! I didn’t get completely hard. I could bend my penis. But, my cock was on its way. I joined Mrs. Lion in the bedroom. She approved of my semi-boner.

It didn’t take her long to get me aroused. As I got more excited, my erection firmed up. She masturbated me for a while and then had me get into position for oral sex. It felt great, and I stayed pretty hard while she sucked me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get to the edge. Still, this was a successful test. The partial boner lasted about forty-five minutes.

The next step is to wait 24 hours and try again with a slightly larger dose. The objective is to get an erection hard enough to successfully penetrate my partner that stays hard at least 45 minutes and under two hours. This isn’t an absolute standard. It may not be possible to get a full erection that lasts under two hours. I’ve read that if the erection is about eighty percent of full hardness, it will be fine. Sexual arousal will make the erection go to 100 percent.

Speaking of arousal, it’s not necessary for the erection. That’s what felt odd. I was getting hard without any sexual stimulation. I didn’t have an orgasm on Monday night. If I did, my erection wouldn’t go down just because I ejaculated. I haven’t experienced that yet. Using this type of drug, unlike Viagra or Cialis, produces an erection as a purely physical process. It doesn’t have anything to do with whether or not you want sex at the time. Intriguing BDSM possibilities that might be fun. Imagine getting the ejaculation out of the way, then doing some cock and ball torture. My penis will stay hard even though I have no interest in sex.

Sounds great, but there’s a catch

I’m delighted that I will be able to get a reliable erection whenever I want. That’s both the good news and the bad news. Using an erection-producing drug like Trimix requires activities right before sex is expected to begin. In other words, spontaneous lovemaking isn’t really possible. Unlike boner pills, you can’t use this drug every day. It can only be used once in 24 hours and just three times a week. Sex has to be planned. Time has to be allowed to prepare and administer the injection, the wait for the drug to do its job. Communication with your partner is critical.

Another catch is that the erection lasts a long time. There’s a very good chance that it will be hard long after the sex is over. If you decide to have sex and then go out to dinner, remember to leave enough time for the boner to subside, or you will be going out to eat with a potentially embarrassing bulge in your pants.

I’m very excited about getting my teenage boners back again. It was an amazing feeling when the erection began. At first, I was a little put off by the thought of injecting something into my penis. But I was willing to try. Cost is a factor. My pharmacy charges $135 for a 5 ml vial. It comes with all the necessary parts for injecting: the syringes, alcohol pads, and a device to safely clip off the needle after use. How many boners you get depends on the dose you need. It can range anywhere from .1 ml of solution (50 boners a bottle) to a full ml. of solution per boner (5 per bottle). Most men need about .2 to .5 ml per injection. If a large dose is needed, the doctor can prescribe a stronger formula.

The vial retains its strength for about ninety days. After that, it has to be discarded. Some places claim a vial can be good for six months. My pharmacy says it is ninety days. If I assume that I will need .2 ml. per dose, I will get 25 boners per vial. That adds up to about 9 per month or 2 a week. That’s probably more than Mrs. Lion will want to give me. Still, at that dosage, the cost is $5.40 per boner. That’s not too bad when you consider that the alternative is no sex at all. If my dose turns out to be less, I’ll have the opportunity to get more fun per vial. Since the limit is three per week, the most I can have is 36 in ninety days. That seems like a lot more than I will want.

I’m writing this post on Tuesday. Later today I’ll ask Mrs. Lion if we can try again. I’ll up my dose by .o3 ml. and we’ll see how hard I get. One thing we have to figure out is how to manage foreplay. The temptation is to go for the gold since I’m presenting a full woody. That’s what we did on Monday. That’s probably the reason it didn’t work. Now that my erection isn’t caused by arousal, I think we have to remember that I need warmup despite the physical evidence to the contrary.

Lion went to his doctor appointment yesterday to learn how to use the boner injection. I have to say, it was weird watching an older female doctor matter-of-factly feeling Lion up. Apparently, not too many wives/girlfriends go with their husbands/boyfriends because either the doctor or nurse thanked me for being there. I don’t know if that’s because the men find it embarrassing or the women do.

On the way home from the doctor, we stopped to pick up the magic weenie potion. Lion already laid in a supply of syringes, but the drug came with some. I guess they want you to be able to enjoy it as soon as possible. I don’t have to tell you that Lion did.

I assumed it would be better if he was lying down for the injection. I guess that’s why I figured I’d be the one doing it. However, you are specifically told to inject while sitting or standing. Pull the weenie taut, choose your target and hit the bullseye. The nurse suggested we pre-fill the syringes once we figure out the dosage. We must have been concentrating on the difficult aspects of it because that suggestion was like a revelation. Duh. That would make it easier than having to take the time to fill the syringe when you’re trying to get busy.

Speaking of which, when he came into the bedroom sporting his woody, I set to work with my hand. It never works well when he’s on the bed so I suggested I suck him. It was going okay, but it occurred to me that it would take just as long, if not longer, to get him to the edge because I’d just gone ahead as though he was aroused. Hard weenie equals arousal, after all. Not anymore.

Now the question is, does he shoot up before we start, or once the preliminaries are done? I mean, the erection is immediate. On one hand, it seems logical to wait until foreplay has him in the mood. On the other hand, that means a break in the action. We’ll need to get the dosage right and figure out how long it lasts. If it lasts long enough, he can inject before we start and we’ll have time to do what we need. If it doesn’t he’ll have to inject after we start.

The way I see it, there are two answers we need. Number one is how hard he gets. Number two is how long it lasts. If we adjust so he gets a stronger erection, does that make it last too long (i.e. the dangerous amount of time)? Tonight, he’ll go up a dose and see what happens.

I had an interesting conversation with a urologist about my erection disorder. I asked her about Edex as a solution. She said that another product called Trimix is more effective with fewer side effects. Let me back up a bit. Edex is alprostadil, a drug that relaxes the blood vessels in the penis and causes an erection. It is available as Edex or Caverject. Caverject is much more expensive than Edex and not covered by my insurance. The doctor said that she gets much better results with Trimix.

Trimix is a combination of alprostadil, phentalomine, and papaverine. The three drugs work together to achieve erections with smaller needles and less risk of side effects than alprostadil alone. There’s one hitch; trimix has to be created by a compounding pharmacy. It isn’t available as a packaged product. Also, it hasn’t been approved by the FDA. It’s considered an off-label use of the three drugs, which have been approved individually. That’s not as bad as you might think. Trimix has been in use since 1983 with excellent success. Since it isn’t approved, insurance doesn’t cover it.

Proper site for penis injection

When I pointed that out to the doctor, she said that Trimix is cheap and probably costs less than my insurance copay for Edex. I told her that I contacted an online pharmacy that quoted me over $400 for a 5ml vial. The vial would be good for 10-20 boners depending on the dose I needed. She told me that a local pharmacy is much less expensive. I called and learned that a vial is only $137. For comparison, a 90-day supply of Edex (18 boners) has an insurance copay of $200. The Trimix is probably less expensive for the same number.

The next question i asked was, what if I need 1ml per dose? I would only get 5 boners per vial. She surprised me by saying that if I needed a larger dose, she could order a stronger mixture of the drugs so that I would need less per boner. I can’t argue with that logic. The first bottle might not last as long as I hoped, but the next one would. OK, Trimix it is.

The next step is for me to go to her office for an injection lesson. A nurse will teach me how to inject the drug into my penis. She’ll use saline solution for the lesson, so no boner will occur. I’m not too worried about the injection. The shaft of the penis has few nerve endings, and the small needle needed would hardly be felt. After my lesson, the doctor will give me a prescription for Trimix, and we can stop and get it on the way home from the doctor’s office.

Once we get home, I can give myself the first injection. It will be for a very small dose that probably won’t create a satisfactory erection that lasts at least a half hour. If it does, that’s fine. If it doesn’t. the next day I give myself a larger dose. If that isn’t enough, I can try a larger dose the day after that. If that still isn’t enough, I will have to wait until the next week to try again. You can only get three doses a week. Each has to be at least 24 hours apart.

erection emergency

At some point, I will get enough of the drug to get hard and stay hard between thirty minutes and an hour. It’s possible that the boner will last longer. If it lasts longer than two hours, it’s time to try to calm it down. No need to panic. It isn’t a medical emergency until the boner stays up for four hours. There are a few things I can do to calm it down if I’m hard for two hours. Ice is one thing to try. Another is to take four Sudafed (4 30mg NOT time release) tablets. Benadryl is also useful (2 tablets). If that doesn’t work and the erection is still going strong at three hours, there is an antidote that can be used.

You need a prescription for it. Phenylephrine is an injectable drug that is generally effective in counteracting this erection. It is a last resort before the Emergency Room. If the erection is still going strong and it is nearly four hours, It’s a powerful vasoconstrictor. The instructions I found on the web say to inject up to .5ml (50 units) into the penis about 2 inches from the base. Inject the same area as the Trimix was injected (not the same place, just the same 10-o’clock/2-o’clock orientation). If the erection doesn’t subside in five minutes, you can inject another .5ml. Massage the injection site for five minutes to distribute the drug. If two doses don’t work, head to the Emergency Room.

This sort of problem is quite rare. I think it makes sense to know what to do if there is a problem. I’m going to discuss this with my urologist and ask for a phenylephrine prescription. It’s important to discuss emergency procedures with your doctor. If you have high blood pressure or other heart problems, Sudafed may not be an option, and you may need to go right to the injection.

The risk of an emergency is highest when determining the appropriate dose. I don’t expect this sort of problem, but I want to be aware of what to do and how to handle a problem.

I should have done this sooner

I’m a little angry with myself for waiting this long. I’ve had problems staying hard during sex for quite a while. I thought it was because I was conditioned to have sex on my back, so the only position that worked for intercourse was cowgirl with Mrs. Lion on top. I didn’t realize that I had a medical issue until the problem got so bad I was having trouble keeping it up at any point. I’m a little embarrassed that I need medical help beyond the standard boner pills, but I do. I know I’m not alone and that a lot of men who could have great sex, like me, avoid dealing with this very personal issue. I’m happy I took the first step. Tomorrow I’ll be on the way to great sex again.

I am glad I didn’t try to mow the lawn yesterday. I puttered around cleaning up the yard for the dog. I had to get rid of branches, so she isn’t dragging them in the house. And I used a small fence to keep her out of the blackberry bushes. It only took about forty minutes, but that was long enough to wipe me out. I am not made for hot weather.

Lion took a boner pill to see if it would work. He fell asleep after dinner. I don’t know if it didn’t work because we missed his window of opportunity or if it just didn’t work. We can try again today. Maybe we’ll be better at timing it. A little more attention could help too. I’ve been sort of bummed out since he discovered the injections. I guess I was wrong all those times I told him he wasn’t broken. Think of all the fun we could have been having.

Of course, that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun even if he’s broken. It still feels good to him when I try to get him hard. I can rub or suck my weenie anytime. If I’m pretty sure he isn’t going to get hard, I won’t have to keep going as long as I have been. No need for numb arms. Obviously, I want him to have orgasms. But making him feel good also counts.

I hope his boner injections work. We can go back to the good old days when he wasn’t broken. I always tell him to be careful what he wishes for. Maybe this time, he doesn’t need to be careful.
